Pontiac GTO / Tempest / LeMans — Option Codes

Covers the A-body Tempest/LeMans line (1961–1981 context) and the GTO (option package 1964–65 and 1972–73; own series 1966–71; Ventura-based option 1974). Through 1968 Pontiac documented options with 3-digit sales codes; from 1969 order documentation used corporate UPC/RPO codes (WT1, L74…), with numeric sales codes persisting on invoices. 1964–67 cowl tags from some Fisher plants additionally carry five-group accessory codes (digit + letter, e.g. 3F) that are body-plant codes, not order codes.

Years 1961–1963

First-generation "rope-drive" Tempest (195 4-cyl, 215 aluminum V8, 326 V8 in ’63). No comprehensive machine-readable option-code list was located in web sources — a coverage gap. Options were ordered by Pontiac numeric sales code; PHS documentation is the reliable per-car reference for these years.

1964–67 accessory sales codes at Fisher plants FRA/KAN/PON were also stamped as grouped codes on the body tag (groups 1–5: e.g. group 1 power top/tinted glass/two-tone; group 2 trans/AC/console; group 4/5 mirror & décor groups) — see gtoforum reference thread in Sources.

Year 1966

GTO became its own series (VIN series 42), so the GTO itself no longer carried an option code. Option prices below are from the 1966 mid-size fact sheet (codes not printed in that source).
