Buick Special / Skylark / Gran Sport / GSX / Apollo (1961–1982)

Covers the compact Special/Skylark (1961–63), A-body Special/Skylark (1964–72), Gran Sport / GS 340 / GS 350 / GS 400 / GS 455 / GSX (1965–72), the X-body Apollo (1973–75) and Skylark (1975–79), and the FWD X-body Skylark (1980–82). The 1973–74 Century Gran Sport / Stage 1 continuation is documented in regal-century.md.

Code systems: through 1972, Buick order forms used short letter+digit dealer ordering codes (A1, H6, I-6, …); build sheets used corporate RPO codes (M21, G80, B97, …). See the division README for the distinction.

1971 caution (stage1registry): GM's 68-day strike disrupted 1971 paperwork; Protect-O-Plate stamping errors are common, and no third-party documentation exists for 1971.

Years 1973–1975 — Apollo {#year-1973}

Apollo (X-body, Nova-derived) replaced the Skylark name 1973–75. Options were corporate RPO codes shared across the X-body; Buick-specific transcriptions were not located online — coverage gap. Applicable RPO examples from the 1970–76 Buick option list: L22 (250 six), L32/L34 (350 2-bbl/4-bbl V8), M15/M20/M38/M40 (transmissions), G80 (posi), F41 (HD suspension), N33 (tilt), C60 (A/C) — all single-source for Apollo application.

Years 1975–1979 — Skylark (X-body) {#year-1975}

Skylark name returned mid-1975 on the X-body (Skylark S/R top trim). RPO-era codes; year-specific Buick tables not located — coverage gap. Common RPOs per the 1970–76 list and TriShield trunk-label list: LD7/LD5 (231 V6), LG3 (305 2-bbl), LM1 (350 4-bbl), M29 (THM-200), G80, F41, N33, B93 (door edge guards), A31 (power windows), AU3 (power locks). Confidence: single-source.

Years 1980–1982 — Skylark (FWD X-body) {#year-1980}

FWD X-car Skylark (Limited, Sport Coupe/Sedan). No Buick-specific option code table located online — coverage gap; codes follow corporate RPO practice (e.g. LE2 2.8 V6 usage is unverified for Buick — omitted).

Stage 2 (reference)

Dealer-available race package, 1969–70 (parts continued over the counter): 1969 — cam, high-compression forged pistons, Kustom headers, intake/carb, gears (no special heads); 1970 — D-port Stage 2 heads, matching Kustom headers, radical cam, forged pistons, Edelbrock B4B aluminum intake, Holley carburetor. Estimated near 500 hp; if ordered with the car, parts were shipped in the trunk. Never a regular production option — no RPO/ordering code documented. Confidence: confirmed (existence/contents), no code.
