Pontiac Firebird — third generation, F-body (1982–1992)
The NICB VIN manuals list this Firebird from 1982 to 1989 as the Firebird, Firebird SE and Firebird Trans Am (printed T/A in 1982–1984), with a Firebird Formula line that the 1982 and 1985 tables print with a dash for the current year (the Formula symbol V sits in the 1979–1981 columns of the 1982 table), the 1983 and 1984 tables are unreadable in the OCR for this line, so the NICB tables do not establish a Formula series for 1982–1985 and the Formula rows rest on the enthusiast sources (3rdgenformula, Wikipedia); the 1990 and 1991 manuals list only the Firebird and Firebird Trans Am (printed TRANSAM), and the 1992 manual lists both with a convertible. No Pontiac order guide, data book or Heritage kit for it is in the archive, so the rows rest on enthusiast sources: 3rdgenformula's option pages for each year from 1987 to 1992 (with Formula production counts), thirdgen.org's powertrain tables for 1982, 1984 and 1986 and two option labels decoded on its forum (a 1984 Firebird S/E and a 1986 Trans Am), and Wikipedia's year-by-year account. A code the Firebird shares with its F-body twin, the Camaro, also cites the Camaro Heritage kit page of the same year, and the Notes say so. Before 1987 the rows are sparse: most 1982–1986 equipment years rest on one decoded car, 1985 has almost no equipment source, and no source read gives the paint colors, interior trim combinations or the code of the 1989 turbocharged V6.
