Oldsmobile Starfire & Omega — Option Codes

Two unrelated nameplates share this document:

  • Starfire — full-size personal luxury (1961–1966), then the H-body subcompact hatchback (1975–1980).
  • Omega — compact: X-body Nova-based (1973–1979), FWD X-body (1980–1984; covered here through 1982).

Confidence: confirmed (2+ independent sources), single-source, disputed.

Years 1961–1966 — full-size Starfire

The Starfire was a heavily-equipped model, not an option package, and this era predates Oldsmobile's published corporate-style code lists (divisional option numbering; the 1965 CSM has no option list). Standard equipment, 1961: leather bucket seats, console with tachometer and floor shifter, power steering/brakes/windows/driver's seat.

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
394 CID Starfire V-8: 330 hp (1961), 345 hp (1962–64) 1961–64 Standard; same engine optional in other full-size models by name confirmed (feature), n/a (code)
425 CID Super Rocket, 375 hp 1965–66 Standard confirmed (feature), n/a (code)
L-75 "High Compression Starfire V-8 Engine" — the 375 hp 425 as a coded option in other full-size Oldsmobiles 1966–67 First appearance of Starfire content as a corporate-style code confirmed
Body styles: convertible only 1961; +hardtop coupe 1962; coupe only 1966 1961–66 Context confirmed

Years 1973–1974 — Omega, first generation (X-body)

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence

Brougham S trim (new 1974); "Doctor Oldsmobile" Omega promo cars (53 built, 1973, Van Nuys) 1973–74 Trim/promo, no RPO documented single-source

Note: the 1973 CSM contains no option list; 1973 Omega codes are inferred from 1972/1974 usage.

Years 1975–1977 — Starfire H-body launch; Omega second generation

Sport Omega package (1981: urethane fenders, red-orange striping); SX coupe replaced by ES in 1982 1981–82 Package codes not documented in consulted sources single-source (packages), gap (codes)

Coverage gap: H-body Starfire and X-body Omega appearance-package RPOs (SX, GT/Y-64 aside, Firenza, Sport Omega) are barely documented online; dealer order guides (GM Heritage Center) are the follow-up source. The enthusiast CSM compilations end at 1972/1976 and skew A-body/full-size.
