Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight — C-body, rear-drive (tenth generation) (1983–1984)
The tenth-generation Ninety-Eight was Oldsmobile's rear-drive full-size car, a two-door coupe and a four-door sedan built at Lansing (Wikipedia), sold in 1983 and 1984 as the Regency and the Regency Brougham (the 1983 and 1984 NICB manuals); Wikipedia says rear-drive production ended with the 1984 model year and the Ninety-Eight moved to front-wheel drive for 1985. No GM order guide, data book, Heritage kit or service RPO list for this car is in the archive, and the brief lists no Chevrolet twin kit, so only three engine codes are listed: Wikipedia's articles on the engines date them for the Ninety-Eight, and gnttype.org's 1984 Buick VIN table prints the same codes for the sibling Electra. All three rows are single-source. No source read ties a transmission, axle, option, package, paint or trim code to this car with a year, so none is listed; that is a gap in the sources, not a finding that nothing was offered.
Codes
Engines
| Code | Description | Years | Models/Notes | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LC4 | Engine, 4.1L V6, 252 cu in, 4 barrel | 1983 | Buick-built V6, VIN code 4; shared C-body code, also cited from the Buick Electra; Wikipedia's Buick V6 article lists the LC4 for the Oldsmobile 98 through 1983, and its Ninety-Eight article says the 4.1L V6 was no longer available for 1984, so 1984 is left out; the sibling gnttype.org Buick table is not counted for 1983 because its 1983 Electra block repeats the 1984 one | single-source |
| LV2 | Engine, 5.0L V8, 4 barrel, 307 cu in | 1983–1984 | the Oldsmobile 307 V8, VIN code Y; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile V8 article lists the LV2 for the Oldsmobile 98 through 1984, and its Ninety-Eight article gives the 307 V8 for the generation; shared C-body code, 1984 also cited from the Buick Electra block of gnttype.org's 1984 Buick VIN table, which prints the LV2 (T3, a sibling source that does not lift the row) | single-source |
| LF9 | Engine, diesel, 5.7L V8 | 1983–1984 | the Oldsmobile 350 diesel V8; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile Diesel article lists the LF9 for the Ninety-Eight through 1984, and the Ninety-Eight article's generation infobox names the LF9 diesel; shared C-body code, 1984 also cited from the Buick Electra block of gnttype.org's 1984 Buick VIN table, which prints the LF9 (T3, a sibling source that does not lift the row) | single-source |

Factory documents (T1)
No Oldsmobile factory document for the 1983–1984 rear-drive Ninety-Eight is in docs/factory-docs/ or docs/heritage-ocr/, and the brief lists no Chevrolet twin kit for it, so no row carries a factory citation.
