Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight — C-body, front-drive (twelfth generation) (1991–1996)
The twelfth-generation Ninety-Eight was Oldsmobile's front-drive C-body four-door sedan for the 1991–1996 model years, with a 4 speed 4T60-E or 4T60-E HD automatic (Wikipedia). The NICB VIN manuals print the series as the 98 Touring Sedan (CV), 98 Regency Brougham (CW), 98 Regency (CX) and, from 1994, the 98 Regency Elite. No GM order guide, data book, Heritage kit or service RPO list for this car is in the archive (the archive's Oldsmobile lists start with 1997 and carry no Ninety-Eight), and the C-body has no Chevrolet twin whose kit could be cited, so only the three 3.8L V6 engine codes that Wikipedia's Buick V6 article dates to the Ninety-Eight are listed. Wikipedia's Buick Park Avenue article, the C-body sibling, gives the same three codes, but it is Wikipedia too and adds no independent source; the Cadillac DeVille and Fleetwood articles were not re-read for this doc; the merged Buick Park Avenue doc found no code in them that this car shares. No source read ties a transmission, axle, option, package, paint or trim code to this car with a year, and those are a gap in the sources, not a finding that the car lacked them.
Codes
Engines
| Code | Description | Years | Models/Notes | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| L27 | Engine, 3800 3.8L V6, multiport fuel injection | 1992–1994 | the naturally aspirated 3800 Series I, 170 hp; both years from Wikipedia's Buick V6 article, whose L27 application list gives the Ninety-Eight 1992–1994, first and last year alike; 1991 is left out because no source read dates this car's 1991 engine code (the Ninety Eight article says only that the naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 was offered in all years, and its infobox prints the slash form L27/L36); shared C-body code; cited from the Buick Park Avenue, whose Wikipedia article and the V6 article's Park Avenue entry give L27 to that sibling, but both are Wikipedia, so the row stays single-source; the description follows the merged buick/park-avenue-c-body doc | single-source |
| L67 | Engine, 3800 3.8L V6, supercharged | 1992–1995 | Series I supercharged engine, 205 hp; Touring Sedan, and optional on the Regency Elite; 1992–1995 from Wikipedia's Buick V6 article (L67 Series I application list) and the Ninety Eight article's text, which dates the supercharged engine 1992–1995 and its 1996 removal; shared C-body code; the Buick Park Avenue article names it for that sibling, but it is Wikipedia, so the row stays single-source | single-source |
| L36 | Engine, 3800 Series II 3.8L V6 | 1995–1996 | the naturally aspirated Series II, 205 hp, replacing L27 for 1995; both years from Wikipedia's Buick V6 article, whose L36 application list gives the Ninety-Eight 1995–1996, with the Ninety Eight article's 1995 text on the re-engineered 205 hp engine; shared C-body code; cited from the Buick Park Avenue, whose Wikipedia article gives L36 for 1995–1996, but it is Wikipedia, so the row stays single-source; the description follows the merged buick/park-avenue-c-body doc | single-source |

None. No GM order guide, data book, service RPO list or Heritage kit for the 1991–1996 Ninety-Eight is in docs/factory-docs/ or docs/heritage-ocr/ (gm.saturn.team's Oldsmobile lists start with 1997 and carry no Ninety-Eight), and the C-body has no Chevrolet platform twin whose kit could be cited.
