Oldsmobile Delta 88 — B-body, rear-drive (1983–1985)

The NICB VIN manuals list the rear-drive Delta 88 as the Delta 88, Delta 88 Royale and Royale Brougham in 1983 and 1984, adding the Royale Brougham LS in 1985, as a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan; Wikipedia gives the 231 cu in V6 as the standard engine for 1983, with the 307 Rocket V8 and the 350 diesel optional. No Oldsmobile RPO list, order guide or Heritage kit is known for these years, so the doc holds only the powertrain codes: three are shared B-body codes cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kits of 1983–1985, where a Delta 88 source names the same engine or gearbox, and the 307 V8's code rests on Wikipedia alone. Options, trims, paint and interior codes have no source for this car and are not listed.

LD5 Engine, 3.8L V6, 231 cu in, 2 barrel 1983–1985 shared B-body powertrain code, cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kits, which print LD5 as the 231 cu in 3.8L V6; Wikipedia's Eighty-Eight article names the 231 V6 as the standard engine for 1983; for 1984 and 1985 no Delta 88 source names the engine except the article's generation infobox, which lists the 231 V6 for 1977–1985 under the code LD7, a code Wikipedia's Buick V6 article dates to 1977 only ⛭ GM Heritage — 1983 Chevrolet Caprice, p.15 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, p.6 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, p.38 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Caprice, p.40 confirmed
LV2 Engine, 5.0L V8, 4 barrel, 307 cu in 1983–1985 Oldsmobile 307 Rocket V8; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile V8 article lists the LV2 (VIN code Y) for the Oldsmobile 88 for 1980–1985, and its Eighty-Eight article names the 307 as a 1983 option and the 1985 cars as the last with Rocket V8 power; 1984 from a 1984 Royale Brougham with the Olds 307 (The Truth About Cars); the Caprice kits of these years show the Chevrolet 305 (LG4) instead, so no factory page prints the code for this car single-source
LF9 Engine, diesel, 5.7L V8 1983–1985 shared B-body powertrain code, cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kits (1984 also from the air-conditioning weight remarks); 350 cu in; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile diesel article lists the LF9 for the Delta 88, and its Eighty-Eight article names the 350 diesel as a 1983 option ⛭ GM Heritage — 1983 Chevrolet Caprice, p.13 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, p.7 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, p.38 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Caprice, p.9 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Caprice, p.18 confirmed

Transmissions

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
MX0 Transmission, 4 speed automatic, overdrive 1984–1985 shared B-body transmission code, cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kits (the 1984 page prints MXO); Wikipedia names the THM 200-4R four-speed overdrive automatic among the generation's transmissions, while the kits pair MX0 with the 700-R4 (1985) and with the 700-R4 or the 200-4R (1984), so the code is matched to the Delta 88 by its meaning, a 4 speed overdrive automatic, not by one unit; the 1983 Caprice kit shows the overdrive automatic without a code, so 1983 is left out ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, p.39 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Caprice, p.41 confirmed
