Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme — G-body, rear-drive (1983–1988)
The NICB manuals list the rear-drive Cutlass Supreme and Supreme Brougham in every year from 1983 to 1988, with the Cutlass Calais coupe and the Cutlass Cruiser wagon in 1983 and the Calais again in 1984, and the Cutlass Salon (with a Salon Brougham in 1983) in several of these years. Wikipedia gives the engines as the Buick 231 cu in V6, the Oldsmobile 307 V8 and the Oldsmobile diesels, with the diesel V8 withdrawn after 1985 and the 5.0L V8 the only engine in 1988. No GM order guide, data book or Heritage kit for the Oldsmobile is in the archive, so the rows come from Wikipedia's Oldsmobile articles, one 1985 road-test write-up and the Chevrolet Monte Carlo kits for the codes the two G-body cars share; Wikipedia's articles count as one source. Only engines, one axle and one package could be tied to this car with a year: its trims, paint, interior and accessory codes, and its transmission codes, are a gap in the sources, not a finding that they were not offered.
Codes
Engines
| Code | Description | Years | Models/Notes | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LD5 | Engine, 3.8L V6, 231 cu in, 2 barrel | 1983–1987 | the standard engine; Wikipedia's Buick V6 article lists the Cutlass Supreme through 1987 under its general 231 section, not under a separate LD5 heading and its Cutlass Supreme article drops the 3.8L V6 in 1988; eightiescars.com prints LD5 for the 1985 coupe; shared G-body code, cited from the Chevrolet Monte Carlo kit, whose pages print it only as a California emission engine (1983–1984) ⛭ GM Heritage — 1983 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, p.30 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, p.36 | single-source |
| LV2 | Engine, 5.0L V8, 307 cu in, 4 barrel | 1983–1988 | optional engine through 1987 and the only engine in 1988; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile V8 article lists the Cutlass Supreme through 1987 and the Cutlass Supreme Classic for 1988; eightiescars.com prints LV2 for the 1985 coupe as a 140 horsepower option; no Monte Carlo kit offered this code | single-source |
| LG8 | Engine, 5.0L V8, 307 cu in, 4 barrel, high output | 1983–1987 | only in the Hurst/Olds on the Cutlass Calais coupe (1983–1984) and in the 4-4-2 (1985–1987); Wikipedia's Oldsmobile V8 article, which dates it from 1983 | single-source |
| LF9 | Engine, diesel, 5.7L V8 | 1983–1985 | optional; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile Diesel article lists the Cutlass Supreme through 1985 and its Cutlass Supreme article withdraws the diesel V8 for 1986; eightiescars.com prints LF9 for the 1985 coupe; shared G-body code, cited from the Chevrolet Monte Carlo kit (1983–1984) ⛭ GM Heritage — 1983 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, p.30 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, p.36 | single-source |
| LT6 | Engine, diesel, 4.3L V6 | 1983–1984 | Wikipedia's Oldsmobile Diesel article lists the Cutlass Supreme and Calais for this code through 1984; nothing Oldsmobile-specific beyond Wikipedia prints it; shared G-body code, cited from the Chevrolet Monte Carlo kit (1983) ⛭ GM Heritage — 1983 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, p.30 | single-source |
Axles
| Code | Description | Years | Models/Notes | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| G80 | Axle, rear, limited slip differential | 1985–1987 | a separate order item that many 4-4-2 cars lacked, per Wikipedia's 4-4-2 article (a general statement; the 1985–1987 span is the article's 4-4-2 production span); shared G-body code, cited from the Chevrolet Monte Carlo kit's order pages and option weight pages ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, p.73 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, p.83 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, p.40 | single-source |
Packages & Trims
| Code | Description | Years | Models/Notes | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| W42 | Package, 4-4-2 | 1985 | 4-4-2 package on the Cutlass Salon with the LG8 engine and a 4 speed automatic, replacing the 1983–1984 Hurst/Olds; Wikipedia's 4-4-2 and Cutlass Supreme articles; 1986 left out because Wikipedia makes the 4-4-2 a model line that year and does not print the code for it | single-source |
