Oldsmobile F-85 / Cutlass / 4-4-2 / Hurst-Olds — Option Codes

Covers the A-body (1961–1981 usage here; G-body from 1978 downsize) family: F-85, Cutlass, 4-4-2 (option 1964–67 and 1972-on; its own series 1968–71), Hurst/Olds, Rallye 350, and the turbocharged Jetfire.

Confidence: confirmed (2+ independent sources), single-source, disputed. Codes are shown as Olds literature prints them (with dash); body tags omit the dash (W-30 = W30).

Years 1961–1963 — F-85 and Jetfire

Options in this era were ordered under Oldsmobile's own divisional option numbers, and the 1961–63 factory service literature does not publish a code list (the Olds FAQ code compilation begins at 1965/1966). The headline factory offerings:

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
— (no code documented) Jetfire: turbocharged 215 CID aluminum V-8 ("Turbo-Rocket", 215 hp), Turbo-Rocket fluid injection 1962–1963 Jetfire was marketed as its own F-85-based model, not an RPO confirmed (car), n/a (code)
— (no code documented) Cutlass: upgraded F-85 coupe with 185 hp (later 195 hp) 215 V-8, bucket seats 1961–1963 Trim series rather than coded option confirmed (car), n/a (code)

Coverage gap: per-option divisional numbers for 1961–63 F-85 order forms are not reproduced in any online source consulted; a GM Heritage Center info kit would be needed.

Year 1964 — the B-09 4-4-2

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
B-09 "Police Apprehender Pursuit" — the original 4-4-2 package: 310 hp 330 CID 4-bbl V-8, 4-speed manual, dual exhaust, HD suspension, rear stabilizer bar, dual-snorkel air cleaner, 4-4-2 badges 1964 Any F-85/Cutlass except wagons; $285.14; 2,999 sold (10 four-door sedans documented) confirmed

"4-4-2" initially = 4-bbl carburetor, 4-speed manual, dual exhaust.

Year 1965

The 1965 Chassis Service Manual contains no option-code list. Per the Olds FAQ, the 1965 order code was literally "4-4-2" on the order form; some secondary sources retroactively describe 1964–67 4-4-2s as W-29 cars.

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
"4-4-2" (order-form designation) 4-4-2 package: new 400 CID V-8, 345 hp; meaning now 400 CID/4-bbl/dual exhaust 1965 F-85/Cutlass option single-source
W-29 4-4-2 package (attribution to 1964–65 disputed) (1964–65?) Olds FAQ 442 page: "In 1964 the 4-4-2 was ordered with option code B09… In 1965 the order code was 4-4-2… In 1966, W-29 signified the 4-4-2 option" — but the same FAQ's option-code page says W-29 was used 1964–1967 disputed
