Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser — B-body, rear-drive (1983–1990)

The NICB VIN manuals list the Custom Cruiser as a station wagon car line in 1983 (the Custom Cruiser 2 Seat, body 35) and again in 1990 (Custom Cruiser Station Wagon, series BP); Wikipedia's Custom Cruiser article gives the 307 Oldsmobile V8 as its engine and says the 350 diesel was an option through 1985 and that a 4 speed overdrive automatic was added. No Oldsmobile RPO list, order guide or Heritage kit is known for these years, so the doc holds only powertrain codes: the engine codes are named for the Custom Cruiser by Wikipedia's Oldsmobile engine articles and printed in the Chevrolet Caprice kits as shared B-body codes, and the transmission code is matched by meaning to the Chevrolet kits alone. Options, trims, paint and interior codes have no source for this car and are not listed.

Codes

Engines

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
LV2 Engine, 5.0L V8, 4 barrel, 307 cu in 1983–1990 Oldsmobile 307 V8; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile V8 engine article lists the LV2 (VIN code Y) for the Custom Cruiser through 1990, and its Custom Cruiser article names the 307 as the engine; no factory page prints the code for this car, so the row rests on those Wikipedia articles (one source, not independent of each other), and 1983 to 1986 and 1989 come from them alone; shared B-body code, cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kit (1987, 1988, 1990), where it is the Caprice wagon's engine; the Caprice kit pages are corroboration only ⛭ GM Heritage — 1987 Chevrolet Caprice, p.18 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1988 Chevrolet Caprice, p.14 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1990 Chevrolet Caprice, p.15 single-source
LF9 Engine, diesel, 5.7L V8 1983–1985 350 cu in; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile Diesel engine article lists the LF9 for the Custom Cruiser through 1985, and its Custom Cruiser article names the LF9 diesel as an option through 1985; shared B-body code, cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kit (1983 and 1985 engine pages; the 1984 page names the diesel only in a battery remark, which dates nothing, so 1984 rests on Wikipedia) ⛭ GM Heritage — 1983 Chevrolet Caprice, p.13 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, p.40 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Caprice, p.18 single-source

Transmissions

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
MX0 Transmission, 4 speed automatic, overdrive 1984–1988, 1990 shared B-body code, cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kit; matched to the Custom Cruiser by meaning only: Wikipedia's Custom Cruiser article names the THM 200-4R 4 speed overdrive automatic through 1990 but prints no code, and the kit prints MX0 (the 1984, 1986, 1987 and 1988 pages print MXO) for the Caprice wagon among other models; 1983 is left out because the 1983 Caprice kit shows the overdrive automatic without a code, and 1989 because the 1989 kit's listed pages do not print it ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, p.39 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Caprice, p.41 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1986 Chevrolet Caprice, p.41 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1987 Chevrolet Caprice, p.44 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1988 Chevrolet Caprice, p.14 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1990 Chevrolet Caprice, p.14 single-source
