Cadillac ELR — Delta II / Voltec (one generation) (2014–2016)

The Cadillac ELR is a two-door, four-passenger plug-in hybrid coupe built at Detroit/Hamtramck on GM's Delta II platform with a version of the Chevrolet Volt's Voltec drive. Wikipedia lists model years 2014 and 2016 only (the ELR skipped the 2015 model year), and NICB prints ELR series for 2014 and 2016. GM's 2014 Car & Truck Guide describes the ELR as a sedan, model 6RC47, with a 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 1.4L range-extending generator, and prints four exterior colors. No GM order guide for the ELR is in the repository, so apart from the 2014 paint codes the rows rest on a single third-party specification page per year.

Gaps: no factory source prints an ELR engine, drive unit, battery or option code. The 2014 and 2016 powertrain codes (LUU, MKA, MKD) come from one third-party specification page per year (Car and Driver) and are single-source. The Chevrolet Volt's GM order guides print LUU and MKA (the Volt's range-extender engine and Voltec drive), which corroborates the meaning but does not date them for the ELR. No source read gives the ELR's battery pack code, 2016 paint codes, trims or packages, so there are none. The NICB ELR series letters (RL, RM, RN, RP, RR) are VIN series codes, not RPO codes, and are left out.

Codes

Engines

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
LUU Engine, range extender, 1.4L internal combustion 2014, 2016 Car and Driver's 2014 and 2016 ELR specification pages print "Engine Order Code LUU", gas/electric, 1.4L; GM's Chevrolet Volt order guide prints LUU as the Volt's 1.4L range-extender engine (same Voltec architecture, corroboration only); GM's 2014 Car & Truck Guide p.63 describes the ELR's onboard 1.4L gas-powered electric generator without printing a code single-source

Transmissions

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
MKA Electric drive, Voltec 2014 Car and Driver's 2014 ELR specification page prints "Transmission Order Code MKA", automatic, 1 speed; GM's Chevrolet Volt order guide prints MKA as the Volt's Voltec electric drive (same Voltec architecture, corroboration only); filed with the transmissions as the Volt doc files it single-source
MKD Electric drive, Voltec 2016 Car and Driver's 2016 ELR specification page prints "Transmission Order Code MKD", automatic, 1 speed; read as the 2016 revision of the Voltec drive by its place in the specification, no source says what it changed and no Chevrolet Volt source read prints MKD single-source
