Buick Riviera (1963–1982)

Personal-luxury E-body (B-body based through 1965; E-body 1966-on; downsized B-frame 1977–78; FWD E-body 1979-on). Includes the Gran Sport (A9) option, the 1971–73 boattail, and the 1979–82 S Type / T Type turbos.

Code systems: 1960s Rivieras show Fisher Body accessory group codes on the body plate, Buick dealer ordering codes (A8, A9, H-2, …) in sales literature, and corporate RPO codes on build records. See division README.

Fisher Body accessory codes (body-plate groups, 1963–65, per ROA — partial list, meanings abbreviated): Group 1 letters E, W, X, N, G, F, T, Y, R, S, M, U, D, K (power windows, seats, locks, trunk release); Group 2 2A–2R (upholstery, paint, heater delete, A/C, transmission, lighting, speakers); Group 3 3E, 3W, 3B, 3S, 3V (crash pad); Group 4 4F (remote mirror); Group 5 5Z, 5W, 5K (seat belts, door moldings). Confidence: single-source (ROA).

Dealer-installed accessories (1963–65, ROA): Superlift shocks, cornering lights, Twilight Sentinel, dash tachometer (1964–65, $55), rear-window defroster, remote mirror, trunk release, compass, reverberator (1965).

1973 was the last year for the GS handling/performance option on the boattail; the 455 Stage 1 was not offered on the Riviera (no source found claiming a factory Riviera Stage 1) — treat any such claim as unverified.

Years 1974–1978 {#year-1974}

Notchback restyle 1974–76 (455 std.), downsized B-body 1977–78 (350/403). No Riviera-specific option code tables located online — coverage gap. Applicable corporate RPOs from the 1970–76 Buick list: L72 (455 2-bbl, full-size usage), C61, G80, N37, AT8 (50/50 reclining passenger seat), CF5 (Astroroof, electric). Confidence: single-source.
