Buick Estate Wagon — B-body, rear-drive (1983–1990)

The rear-drive Buick Estate Wagon of these years was a 4-door station wagon sold in two series: NICB's 1983 manual lists the LeSabre Estate and the Electra 225 and Estate car lines with a 4-door wagon body (35), and its 1990 manual prints the LeSabre Estate Wagon series (BR) for 1987–1990 and the Electra Estate Wagon (BV) for 1987–1989; Wikipedia's Buick Estate article says the Electra and LeSabre names were dropped for 1990, when the car was sold simply as the Estate Wagon. Wikipedia gives the Oldsmobile 307 V8 as the standard engine and the 5.7 litre diesel as available through 1985, and gnttype.org's 1984–1987 Buick VIN tables print their RPO codes. No Buick order guide, data book, Heritage kit or RPO list for the Estate Wagon is in the archive, so only powertrain codes are listed: the Chevrolet Caprice kits, from the B-body twin whose wagon shared the 307 V8 from 1987, are cited only for the engine and transmission codes the two cars share. No source read ties an option, package, paint or trim code to the Estate Wagon with a year, so none is listed.

Codes

Engines

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
LV2 Engine, 5.0L V8, 4 barrel, 307 cu in 1983–1990 Oldsmobile 307 V8, the standard engine; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile V8 article lists the LV2 (VIN code Y) for the Buick Estate Wagon through 1990, and its Buick Estate article names the 307 as the standard engine; gnttype.org's 1984 to 1987 Buick VIN tables print it in the B-body block that includes the Estate wagon, a second source; 1983 and 1989 from Wikipedia alone, so the row stays single-source; shared B-body code; cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kit (1987, 1988, 1990), where it is the Caprice wagon's engine ⛭ GM Heritage — 1987 Chevrolet Caprice, p.18 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1988 Chevrolet Caprice, p.14 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1990 Chevrolet Caprice, p.15 single-source
LF9 Engine, diesel, 5.7L V8 1983–1985 350 cu in; Wikipedia's Buick Estate article names the LF9 diesel among the generation's engines and says the 5.7 litre diesel was available through 1985; gnttype.org's 1984 and 1985 Buick VIN tables print it in the B-body block that includes the Estate wagon, a second source; shared B-body code; cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kit (1983, 1985) ⛭ GM Heritage — 1983 Chevrolet Caprice, p.13 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Caprice, p.18 confirmed

Transmissions

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
MX0 Transmission, 4 speed automatic, overdrive 1984–1988, 1990 matched to the unit by meaning: Wikipedia's Buick Estate article names a 4 speed automatic among the generation's transmissions but prints no code; the kit pages print MXO (1985 MX0); the 1984 and 1986 weight pages list it for the Caprice wagon among other models, the 1987 page as standard on the Caprice wagon, the 1988 guide's wagon page as a no-charge item, and the 1990 guide's axle-ratio chart pairs it with LV2; 1983 is left out because the 1983 Caprice kit shows the overdrive automatic without a code, and 1989 because the 1989 kit's listed pages do not print it; shared B-body code; cited from the Chevrolet Caprice kit ⛭ GM Heritage — 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, p.39 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1985 Chevrolet Caprice, p.41 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1986 Chevrolet Caprice, p.41 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1987 Chevrolet Caprice, p.44 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1988 Chevrolet Caprice, p.14 ⛭ GM Heritage — 1990 Chevrolet Caprice, p.14 single-source
