Buick Electra — C-body, rear-drive (fifth generation) (1983–1984)

The fifth-generation Electra was Buick's rear-drive C-body car, built at Flint (Wikipedia; the NICB manuals and gnttype.org give Flint for the Electra), sold as a two-door coupe and a four-door sedan in Electra Limited and Electra Park Avenue form (the 1983 and 1984 NICB manuals and gnttype.org's Buick VIN tables); Wikipedia's production table counts 8,885 coupes and 79,700 sedans for 1983 and 4,075 coupes and 52,551 sedans for 1984, and says rear-drive Electra production ended in April 1984. The Electra Estate wagon, which Wikipedia places on the LeSabre's B-body and gnttype.org lists in its LeSabre block, is covered by the Buick Estate Wagon doc. No GM order guide, data book, Heritage kit or service RPO list for this Electra is in the archive, and the brief lists no Chevrolet twin kit, so only the three engine codes are listed: Wikipedia's engine articles date them for the Electra through 1984, and gnttype.org's 1984 Buick VIN table prints them for the Electra; its 1983 table repeats the 1984 Electra block word for word, so 1983 rests on Wikipedia alone, and a single auction listing of one 1983 car that names the LV2 is not counted as a second source; all three rows are single-source. No source read ties a transmission, axle, option, package, paint or trim code to this Electra with a year, so none is listed; that is a gap in the sources, not a finding that nothing was offered.

Codes

Engines

Code Description Years Models/Notes Confidence
LC4 Engine, 4.1L V6, 252 cu in, 4 barrel 1983–1984 VIN code 4; Wikipedia's Buick V6 article gives the LC4 to the fifth-generation Electra through 1984, and its Electra article names the Buick 252 V6 among the generation's engines; gnttype.org's 1984 Buick VIN table prints it in the Electra Limited and Park Avenue block, a second source for 1984; its 1983 Electra block is word for word the 1984 one, so 1983 rests on Wikipedia alone and the row stays single-source single-source
LV2 Engine, 5.0L V8, 4 barrel, 307 cu in 1983–1984 the Oldsmobile 307 V8, VIN code Y; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile V8 article lists the LV2 for the Electra through 1984; 1983 also matches one 1983 Electra Park Avenue coupe listed on AutoHunter with the LV2, a single dealer-type listing (T4) that is not counted as a second source; 1984 also from gnttype.org's 1984 Buick VIN table, which prints it in the Electra Limited and Park Avenue block (its 1983 block is word for word the 1984 one, so it is not counted for 1983) single-source
LF9 Engine, diesel, 5.7L V8 1983–1984 the Oldsmobile 350 diesel V8, VIN code N; Wikipedia's Oldsmobile Diesel article lists the LF9 for the Electra through 1984; gnttype.org's 1984 Buick VIN table prints it in the Electra Limited and Park Avenue block, a second source for 1984; its 1983 Electra block is word for word the 1984 one, so 1983 rests on Wikipedia alone and the row stays single-source single-source

Factory documents (T1)

No Buick factory document for the 1983–1984 rear-drive Electra is in docs/factory-docs/ or docs/heritage-ocr/, and the brief lists no Chevrolet twin kit for it, so no row carries a factory citation.
