Impala / Full-Size Chevrolet — Option Codes (1960–1982)
Covers Biscayne, Bel Air, Impala, Caprice and the full-size wagons (Brookwood/Townsman/Kingswood/Estate). Two coding eras apply:
- 1960–1962 — Chevrolet used numeric option codes (with letter suffixes) on order forms and build records. The modern 3-character alphanumeric RPO system did not yet exist.
- 1963 onward — the familiar 3-character alphanumeric RPO codes.
Year coverage caveat: the main alphanumeric source (348-409.com) is a division-wide list documenting codes used from 1963 through the 1970s and gives exact years for only some codes. Where the Years column reads "1963–70s (varies)", the code is documented for Chevrolet passenger cars in this era but its exact full-size model-year availability was not mapped by the sources consulted. Codes exclusive to other Chevrolet lines (Chevelle SS, Monte Carlo, Camaro, Corvette) are omitted here — see those model docs.
